A Story of
Survival and Thriving
Life Center Ethiopia was founded in 2013 by Mulu G. Woldetinsae, whose own life inspired her passion for helping children and widows in her home country of Ethiopia.
In 2008, Mulu G. Woldetinsae arrived in the United States with her two small children. Mulu’s family had been broken apart when her husband, Tamrat Layne, a former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, was falsely arrested in 2007. Mulu and her children lived in a refugee camp in Kenya until she was granted asylum and moved to Denver, Colorado.
Mulu lived in the US as a single mom until her husband was released from prison and was allowed to join his family in Denver. Mulu and Tamrat had pledged their lives to making Ethiopia better by alleviating poverty. After they both converted to Christianity, Mulu returned to Ethiopia in 2013. Witnessing the devastating poverty that plagued her homeland, she realized that the true path to transforming the country lay not in government action, but in empowering its people.
By loving them and showing them the love of God, and by practically meeting financial and physical needs of children and widows through business training and microloans,
Mulu realized that Ethiopia could be transformed from the inside out.
Because of
Life Center Ethiopia…
Hundreds of families have been given the opportunity to obtain an education and start small businesses. We celebrate the fact that 23 of our students have graduated from high school, seven have earned vocational degrees and nine have graduated with advanced degrees. Even more are employed in ways they never dreamed possible!
our Vision for the Future:
Building a generation of community change makers
Building on Life Center Ethiopia’s passion for transforming lives, we aim to expand our work in Sekota and Addis Ababa, as well as reach even more communities in Ethiopia.
We recently launched our newest program, the Collaborative Ventures Program, and we know the changemakers enrolled in that initiative will continue to change their families, communities and Ethiopia!
Your continued support, through gifts and volunteering, will be instrumental in fueling the ripple effects of positive change.
